Where The Horizon Closes Down

'O my God, fill my soul with holy joy, courage and strength to serve You. Enkindle Your love in me, and then walk with me along the next stretch of road before me.

'I do not see very far ahead, but when I have arrived where the horizon now closes down, a new prospect will open before me, and I shall meet it with peace.'

St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein)

Upon My Lips A Song

'Because the road was steep and long
and through a dark and lonely land,
God set upon my lips a song
and put a lantern in my hand.'

From 'Love's Lantern' by Joyce Kilmer

All the Paths of the Lord

'Good and upright is the Lord....
He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches them His way.
All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness
for those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.'

Psalm 25:8-10

40 Day Road

'O Jesus, Who were obedient unto death, You would not have one
that loves You well take any other road than that which You Yourself took.'

He Chose This Path For Me

'He chose this path for me.
No feeble chance, or hard,
    relentless fate,
but love, His love, hath placed
    my footsteps here.

'He knew the way was rough
    and desolate;
knew my heart would often
    sink with fear,
yet tenderly He whispered,
    'Child, I see
this path is best for thee.'

'He chose this path for me,
though well He knew sharp thorns
    would pierce my feet,
knew how the brambles
    would obstruct the way,
knew how my feet would falter
    day by day;
and still the whisper echoed:
'yes, I see
this path is best for thee.'

He chose this path for me.  What need I more?
This sweeter truth to know,
that all along these strange, bewildering ways,
O'er rocky steeps and where dark rivers flow,
His loving arms will bear me all the days.

A few steps more,
I myself shall see
this path is best for me.'

The Road Less Traveled

I was a bit beside myself today to find this video.  To hear one of my favorite poets reading his own work, with the emphases he had in mind as he composed it, is a rare treat for me.

Is this everyone's favorite poem?  It certainly is one of mine.

I found this at Our Journey.  There are several poetry "readings" over there!

"He guides me in right paths for His Name's sake."  (Psalm 23:3)

"Since the blood of Jesus assures our entrance into the sanctuary by the new and living path He has opened up for us through (the veil meaning His flesh), and since we have a great Priest Who is over the house of God, let us draw near with utter sincerity and absolute confidence..." (Hebrews 10:19-21)

"I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life..."  (Jesus in John 14:6)
