Whenever a Storm Threatens...

'Do as vinedressers or gardeners whenever a storm threatens...
They run to a shelter and stay there in peace until the storm passes.
That is what I want you to do with the grace of God.
Always remain quiet and calm in the shelter of God's will,
under the almighty protection of the Most High.'

                           St. Paul of the Cross

  1. Thank you Nancy. I am in the middle of a storm right now, and this is a good word for me.

  2. I, too, have not been at peace lately--and I needed to read this. I've been struggling so with accepting the fact that it is highly probable that not one of my five grown sons will settle near my husband and me. (This might be exacerbated by the fact that when my second-oldest son gets married in November, he will be the third son of ours to get married in an 11-month period! Things have been happening awfully fast!

I find myself envying the grandmas who have their little darlings living ten minutes away and can see them whenever they want. I am trying to come to terms with the fact that this is not how my life will be, and I need to be happy that at least my boys and their wives like to remind us that they have a place in their homes all set up for us, and we can visit whenever we like, for as long as we like. I'm desperately trying to accept this cross I've been handed (a measly one, when I think of all the much tougher hardships endured by others), and I must remember to keep "quiet and calm in the shelter of God's will."

This is a beautiful post, and it came at such a good time. Thank you!

  3. Beautiful, Nancy. Giving it to God and trusting hasn't always been easy, but I persist.

    1. Thank you, Patty. It's so easy to say we give it to God - and it can be so hard to do!
