On the Morning of Confession

'When our Lord is with us,
light is poured abroad
on life's path,
light is shed around
in the house of our soul,
His own living Tabernacle....

'On the morning of Confession,
show Him round the house;
show Him what needs repair;
show Him where thieves
break in and steal;
be busy telling Him all,
and beg of Him the grace
of perfect contrition.'

(from Fervorinos From Galilee's Hills, compiled by a Religious, Pelligrini, Australia, 1936, p. 223)

  1. As I am headed to confession this evening, your timing is perfect in posting this :) I like the idea of showing Him around the house of my souls and asking Him for "repairs".
    Thanks for sharing this, Nancy.

  2. The image of "where thieves break in and steal" hits home for me in a big way this week.
    Our car was vandalised on Sunday night and the thieves cut all the hoses to the petrol tank to drain it. The car we were due to travel interstate to spend Christmas with our son in! It won't be fixed til after new year now.
    Made me see how unconfessed sin is a thief that cuts off the power-flow from God to the soul..leaving me empty and going nowhere fast!

    1. Oh Trish. I'm so sorry to hear about your car!!! How wonderful that you found a beautiful spiritual analogy even in that...thank you for sharing it with us. I hope your car is repaired soon - maybe even faster than expected???
