Ice and Snow, Bless the Lord

'Frost and chill, bless the Lord;
praise and exalt Him above all forever.
Ice and snow, bless the Lord;
praise and exalt Him above all forever.
Nights and days, bless the Lord;
praise and exalt Him above all forever.
Light and darkness, bless the Lord;
praise and exalt Him above all forever.
Lightnings and clouds, bless the Lord;
praise and exalt Him above all forever.
Let the earth bless the Lord;
praise and exalt Him above all forever.'

Daniel 3:69-74,
from Azariah's hymn of
praise in the fiery furnace

  1. I saw a post on FB the other day. The woman said that every time she wants to complain about how cold she is, she gives thanks to God for the warm coat that she has on her. And then she went on to encourage others to donate an old coat that they don't wear anymore or haven't worn for more than a year. This poem reminded me of it. :)

    1. What a wonderful thing to do with a bit of discomfort... both the prayer, and the encouragement of donation. Love it, and thanks for sharing.

  2. The frost and chill, ice and snow are certainly blessing the Lord around here, Nancy! As a matter-of-fact they are blessing Him nonstop and not letting brother sun get a word in edgewise ;)

    1. Hope you're staying warm, Mary. And no worries.... I'm sure brother sun will have a turn in a few months. :)

  3. I'll say this for the snow--it makes my poor-to-middle neighborhood look much more charming than it actually is!

    1. That's one thing I LOVE about snow, Jamie. It's one reason I actually prefer seeing it (freshly fallen) in a city rather than in the country... and yes, I really do. Charming is a good word for what happens. I went to grade school in what is now considered "inner city," and beautiful memories of the difference made by snow (specially on and around a "dingy" factory nearby) shall be, I know, forever imprinted in me.

  4. What a great reminder to practice gratitude in all things. How wonderful that you were able to see the transforming by snow; beautiful memories! Thank you for this beautiful praise of our Lord and the snowy painting! God Bless....

  5. Nancy,

    A blanket of snow really does make everything look beautiful. The few times we have seen snow, we have gazed and gazed at it, unable to tear our eyes away. Very easy to praise God when we watch those flakes falling! Snow is a novelty for us though and I guess there are many people who suffer because of the cold that accompanies it.
