How to Pray in Pregnancy

'Since your pregnancy prevents you
from making your usual long mental prayer,
make your prayer short and fervent.
Make up for the loss by
frequently lifting your heart to God;
often read from some good spiritual book,
but only a little at a time;
when you go for a walk,
often turn your thoughts to God.
Pray often and briefly;
offer your listlessness and weariness
to our crucified Lord.'

St. Francis de Sales

  1. Nancy, just wondering, do you keep a spiritual journal? I love your posts. I have been sharing them on Twitter. God bless.

    1. Thank you so much, Esther! I've kept spiritual journals for years and have many volumes of them. About 25 years ago I began typing most of them into computer just so I could go back and read them (my handwriting is dreadful). Actually, my little book The Cloistered Heart (linked on sidebar) is made up primarily of journal entries, as was a magazine article of the same name that preceded it. So yes - I am a journaler!

      Thank you again.

  2. Oh, I thought so, Nancy, because you post pretty much what I do, read, write and share. What a good idea to put them on the computer. Thanks for telling me about The Cloistered Heart. I will need to visit that very soon. God bless.

  3. I find that when I am pregnant, I feel very close to God. Something about growing one of God's children and participating in that makes me feel like I am praying all the time. It's a very special time! Thanks for the beautiful post.
