Notice How They Preach

'Listen to the sermon preached to you by the flowers, the trees, the shrubs, the sky, and the whole world. Notice how they preach to you a sermon full of love, of praise of God, and how they invite you to glorify the sublimity of that sovereign Artist who has given them being.'

St. Paul of the Cross

Painting: H. A. Brendekilde, A Wooded Path in Autumn, 1902

  1. Ahhh....another gorgeous autumn painting. I love the detail of white on the woman's lap. A purse perhaps or white gloves. I want to walk into this painting and on down the road. The wisdom of St Paul of the Cross is so beautiful. The sermon of the "whole world" the sermon of "full of love" and "praise" of God. It is such an amazing truth. May we all accept the invitation to glorify the "Artist" who has "given them being." These days are amplified with His glory. Beauty of His truth and truth of His beauty. (an alteration of Keats' beauty and truth lines--i like to include whose truth and beauty!). Enjoy the artwork of the air and over the land!!!

    1. Thank you, Deborah. I think we should all just go right on it! We can catch a whiff of woodsmoke drifting on a crisp breeze, listen to crunchy leaves rattling around our feet....

Meet you on the bench at whenever-thirty, on the dot. Don't be late :) !
