Nancy, Edith Stein is Charlotte's confirmation saint but I have never delved too deeply into her writings. Is she a doctor of the Church? I hear she was a very intellectually clever woman. I really would love to find out more.
There is such a summery feeling to the painting. The blues, yellows and white work perfectly together. I don't suppose the people are as carefree as I imagine. It must be hard working all day in the hot sun.

As you see by my above comment to Lindy, I agree that the painting feels summery! As beautiful as it looks, I immediately think of being one of the women in it, hot and exhausted from working.... and wasting my occasion for mortification by grumbling about my sore feet and this scarf is squishing my hair and do we have to walk much farther and when can we have a break and why can't I just lie down here for a SECOND????

Ooops is right! I love the colors in this picture.... especially the blues and yellow. Those are two of my favorite color combinations.
