Linda, the line that "comes with" the painting reads Schikaneder Straoprazska zakouti. And now I shall show my ignorance, because I'm not even sure of the language! I just know it's in US public domain due to age. I have been putting artists' names at the bottom of my individual posts rather than under the pictures, but am going to (when I have a chance) work on putting titles closer to pictures. Thank you!
I wish I could step into that beautiful snowy scene! I am sure I would feel refreshed after my hot and sticky summer day.
"Great Ruler of the starry sky" I love putting my head back and staring up at the clear night sky. So many twinkling stars can be seen where we live. I guess we look at a different night sky to the one you see. I look and feel so small and I imagine how big God is.
Oh Sue, now you shall have me "waxing poetic," as I once again long for your lovely night skies where one can see the SOUTHERN CROSS! What a THRILL that was when I was there in 1995 (in Western Australia, in September). I would stand out every night and gaze and gaze, and I literally got a strained neck after 3 straight weeks of that :)! Like you, I LOVE staring up at the clear night sky, and I've always loved stars. I don't know if ALL of what we see in the northern hemisphere is different to what you see there, as I'm no good at picking out constellations and to me stars are stars. But oh, I do know and love the Southern Cross, and it is never visible here. Looong sigh.....
Kathleen, most of the paintings I use come from Wikimedia Commons. I use copyright free ones (if not, I cite otherwise), and usually the copyright expiration is due to the painting's age. The W. site tells if something is public domain and why. I use Wikimedia with caution, however, as a few things on there are far from G-rated. I normally type "painting of" in their search bar, and that helps cut down on stuff I don't even want to see in thumbnails - but not always. Being a lover of art and words, this has been like opening a treasure chest for me. I always pray for the Lord to lead the search .. and am sometimes amazed at what I find!
